Freedom 5K

The Freedom 5K 2019 was held at Harriot Island Regional Park in St Paul on September 21st. What a great venue for a race!

Here we are at the gun:

Although rain, even thunder storms, had been predicted earlier in the week, the weather was actually perfect for the race. I was thrilled to be able to manage 3rd place among the 60-somethings.

The race was sponsored by MN Adult & Teen Challenge. Together we raised $120,000 to help people find freedom from addiction!

Yellow Rose

Today was the Yellow Rose 5K & 10K.

It was a beautiful day in Warroad - about 70 degrees and sunny.

There was a total of 276 walkers and runners for the 5K event!
I'm the one with the sweat band. I don't understand why everyone doesn't need a sweat band. Am I the only one who sweats?

And we're off...
As I said, it was a beautiful day, perhaps a little too beautiful. During the first two miles of the race, there are plenty of opportunities to find shade. However, the last mile is brutal on a sunny day.

As usual, my goal was to finish in under 30 minutes, and I may have done just that had I not pulled a hamstring with about one-tenth mile to go! I switched from a sprint to a limp. Here I am pathetically crawling over the finish line...

My actual time was 30:07. I think that's my best time since 2014 - so I've got to be happy about that even though I didn't meet my goal. And because the 10K event was introduced this year, some of my competition was diverted to that event which allowed me to take third place in the 60 and over age group! I think this is the first time I've ever medaled in Warroad.
In the past I've shown pictures of little girls beating me. No such picture today... The eight-year-old who beat me today crossed the finish line over six minutes ahead of me!

Stomp Out Cancer 5K

We ran at 9:00 this morning. The temperature was in the 50s, but there was a strong wind.

Here we are gathered at the starting line:

And we're off:

It was more a battle against the wind then our fellow runners. Here I am running up the killer hill at the end of the race:

Here I am with the other 60-something winners:

Year Eight!

It was a long, cold winter... After two months of running on a tread mill, boy was it great to run outdoors again. And what a beautiful day it was!

Today begins year eight of Running Every Street - 90 miles - to raise money for Living Hope Ministries. If you'd like to partner with me, please read the details on the right and let me know what you'd like to do.
