Similar to last year, due to the late spring, we're getting a late start. Summer's here now, so let's do it again!
Please read the info on the right side of this page. Again, donations will be going to Living Hope. If you're not familiar with Living Hope, please click on the link and learn about this great ministry in Northeast Minneapolis.
Thanks to everyone who donated last year. We were able to give $920 to Living Hope! Thanks to everyone who will donate this year. Please come back often and watch my progress.

Malung 5K
I took off some pounds. I trained at shorter distances. And today I ran a much smarter race than the previous races this summer. It all paid off. Not only did I achieve my goal of under 30 minutes - I was actually under 28 minutes!
Now I need to decide if I should run in Fargo next month...
Thank you to all of you who have sent in your money for the fund raiser. The funds are very much appreciated.

Mission Accomplished
I completed my running of every street this morning with a 4.8 mile run to the western edge of the city. It ended up being a total of 90.4 miles this year.
Thanks to the generous donations of many, Living Hope will receive $880. I will be contacting those of you who pledged soon. It's not to late if you'd like to make a last minute donation.
Next up is the Malung Mustang 5K in two weeks:

We're Getting Close!
I'm almost done with every street in Roseau. Only two more long runs - one run to the extreme west of town and one to the southwest corner. Stay tuned.
On Saturday the Yellow Rose 5K was held in Warroad. Here I am being passed by a little girl at the end:
This isn't the first time a little girl has passed me at the end of a race. How humbling! Notice the time: 31:00. I can't seem to break 30 minutes this year. There's another race coming up in Malung next month. I have a three point strategy to break 30 minutes:
1. Lose some more weight
2. Train at shorter distances at a faster pace
3. Run the first mile of the race at a faster pace
I never thought breaking 30 minutes would be a big deal, but this year it is.

I got the memo... finally
It seems like just yesterday that anytime I wore shorts, the socks of choice would have three stripes and come half-way up my calf. Some time, in the late '80s or early '90s I think, it got harder to find socks with three stripes. I had to settle for two stripes... and sometimes just one. Finally, probably in the late '90s, I resigned myself to the fact that it was time to go stripe-less. And the socks were about half the height as they had been.
Finally, about five years ago, I started running 5Ks. At first, I thought I looked pretty much like everyone else - just older.
It took me at least a couple years to realize there was something different about me - I was the only one who still wore socks that went up past my ankles. Hmmm. What to do? What do all these people do when their socks are below their ankles and there's nothing to pull up? Boy, that would just be too strange. So, I've continued to be the holdout, the non-conformist, the rebel... until now.
I finally got the memo. Tomorrow is the Roseau ALS 5K. My socks will look like this:
Yes, I'm bowing to the pressure. Will I be able to run faster? Will I be able to crack 30 minutes? Perhaps even achieve my goal of 29 minutes? Stay tuned...
Come join us tomorrow. We begin at the track at 8:30 am. The weather promises to be nice and cool so there may be a lot of personal bests. We'll also raise some money to 'make a difference for ALS'.

Stomping Out Cancer
Last Saturday I ran in the 3rd Annual 'Stomp Out Cancer 5K' here in Roseau. I took 3rd place in my age category with a blazing fast time of 31:18. Congratulations to Weston Nelson, the overall winner, who ran almost twice as fast. Hopefully, with some weight loss and a lot more training, I can get my time down under 30 minutes at the next 5K.
I am greatly encouraged and grateful for the great response so far. We're already up to $760 pledged!
I have run a little over a quarter of the miles now. This last week was tough with the sun beating down pretty good.
