Roseau Bike Trails

I recently searched for a map of our bike trails in Roseau. I didn't find much, so I am contributing this. For a pdf version, click this link.

It was a beautiful day for a 5K in Roseau yesterday. Here are a few photos:

The Running Man

I just heard the story of Orville Rogers, a 100-year-old man, who is still running. He began running at the age of 50 and hasn't stopped. He ran a sub 10-minute mile at the age of 90 - a first. He's still breaking records at the age of 100.

Hear his story here.

Year Seven: Completed

I completed year seven of 'Running Every Street' a few days ago with my longest, least favorite run. Every year I save this 5.3 mile killer run for last. It's long straight roads to the west end of town, and then as south to the southwest corner of town.

We have $600 pledged! As soon as the money comes in, I'll get it sent off to Living Hope.

The Roseau ALS 5K is coming up on the 14th.

This is my favorite photo of the race from 2012:

Mount Roseau

If the weather cooperates, I may be able to complete year seven of Running Every Street of Roseau tomorrow morning! But today I'd like to switch topics and talk about Mount Roseau!

A local Mountain Bike Club has created and maintains 6.5 miles of single track mountain bike trails in the Roseau East Diversion Greenway.  The "Mount Roseau" trail provides flat and hilly terrain for both novice and experienced trail riders.  The Mount Roseau trailhead is located directly east of the Roseau City Park on the north side of the County Road 24 bridge.

When you come to the fork in the road, you will have three options:

If you're a 61-year-old, gray-haired, grandpa, I recommend option 3 - turn around, go straight home, sit in the recliner, and watch videos of silly people doing silly things. On the other hand, if you're a silly old man who doesn't know any better, go ahead - try the 3.7 mile route.

This is what you're in for:

If you look carefully at this aerial view, you'll notice dozens of winding trails in what looks like a maze. Once you begin riding, you'll feel like a rat running through a maze with no escape. Yes, you're trapped. You've got to ride the full 3.7 miles, left and right, up and down, to the bitter end.

Yes, I said left and right:

...and, yes, I said up and down:

I heard one old guy say it reminded him of riding the Badlands of North Dakota!

If you're lucky, you may see another glutton for punishment:

...or a crop-duster under a full moon:

... or some wispy clouds floating over the trees:

Any questions?

Year Seven!

It's been a cool spring. I'm getting started a little later than last year. But I've been running on the tread mill at the school for a couple months and I think I'm ready to go.

Today was the first 5K of the season - the LifeCare Walk/Run which raises money for the fight against diabetes:

The weather was perfect for a 5K - not too hot, not too cold. Here we are at the start. I already look tired five steps into the race. I don't really feel as bad as I look...

Mission Accomplished

It's been a  good summer for running. The weather's been great. I haven't had to cancel any runs due to too much heat and very few due to rain. I took a look back and discovered this was the second earliest I've finished running every street. In my first year of doing this, 2012, I finished on June 7th. Otherwise, I usually finish in July.

This summer I was delayed a couple weeks because of our 35th anniversary trip to the Canadian Rockies. Here are a couple photos from that trip:

Moraine Lake, Banff

Maligne Lake, Jasper
Thanks, everyone, for the support.
