2022: 200 miles!

With the nice autumn weather, I've been able to get in a few more runs lately. My three-mile run yesterday put me over 200 miles for the year. I'm so thankful to be able to continue doing this!

Bemidji Blue Ox 5K

Yesterday was the Bemidji Blue Ox.

The sun was shining, but it was only 45 degrees. Of the 260 runners, I'm pretty sure I was the only one in short sleeves.

With the cool weather, my lowest weight of the season, and a couple good workouts this week, I felt I was in a good position to achieve my goal of 30 minutes.

My photographer got a couple pictures of me approaching the finish line:

As it turns out, I achieved my goal - 29:56!

Here are some more stats:

I met a 74-year-old gentleman from Perham named Jerry who ran the 5K in 27:00 minutes! So now I have a new goal - to do the same when I'm 74...

Harvest Hustle

Yesterday was the Harvest Hustle put on by Riverview Outdoors and Recreation in Roseau.

It was a beautiful day - mid-50s, partly cloudy. I came in 15th overall, second among the old men.

Home Run!

On Saturday the 17th I ran the Home Run 5K in Grand Forks, a fund raiser for the Northlands Rescue Mission. Their mission: We are an emergency shelter empowering people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or food insecurity to live more stable lives.

This 5K is run along the Red River in Grand Forks. It began by running up the steep hill of the dike and then speeding down the other side. Then we ran along a bike trail for a mile and a half and came back. It had a lot of up and down and curves back and forth. The weather couldn't have been better - kind of cool with the sun shining.

For me, it truly was a 'home run'. I achieved my goal of running under 30 minutes! That was my best time in two years.

2022 A-Cross America Relay

On July 4th a huge pro-life event began. With kickoffs at the Brooklyn Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, Grand Forks ND, and San Antonio TX, runners began a huge relay with 1528 legs covering 5359 miles. Pro-lifers could register to run or walk 5K legs on the relay course or from anywhere in the world, anytime from July 4th to August 7th.

I registered for a leg near Hillsborough ND on July 5th at 12:38pm. Each participant wears a shirt that says, "Remember the Unborn - Jer 1:5".

I've also run six other legs off-course at different times. I love the idea of running with purpose! (I plan on running all my 5Ks with this shirt in the future.)

The event will finish up on August 7th in Kansas City MO.

If you are interested in joining us next year, please listen to Eric Metaxas interviewing Dr Pat Castle at this link.

ALS Walk/Run and Completion of Year 11!

The ALS 5K yesterday was a big success. They really are making a difference for ALS raising many thousands of dollars for over 20 years.

I appreciate how organized the 5K always is. So many volunteers - and they all know exactly what they're supposed to do.

I was fortunate to take first place for the old guys... Here's a couple photos:

I needed a short stretch of road from the park to finish 'Running Every Street'. With the ALS Walk/Run I was able to pick that up and finish for this year!

Year 11

It's so good to get outside and run again. It was a long winter. I got started with outdoor running almost a month later than last year. However, I put a lot more time in on the tread mill this winter. I'm running as fast right now as I was at the end of June last year.

We had our first 5K in Roseau last weekend:

Running in one's 60s has its advantages and disadvantages. On the down-side, you don't have many competitors pushing you. On the up-side, you can easily win first-place medals for your age group. I took first place for the 60-something men. I was the only one...

This is my 11th year of Running Every Street. Thank you to all of you who support me. As I always say, it's a win-win-win situation. You're supporting a great ministry, Living Hope. You're motivating me to keep running. And you're receiving a blessing by giving.
